Welcome to the March edition of FOCUS and to bring to your immediate attention, the Welsh 3000s Challenge has changed to June 10th with just two remaining places. Please see below for more details. In this edition Tilly reports from HELP, our charity of the month, and Hannah highlights ‘The Stigma Surrounding Therapy for Mental Health‘.
We remember Dr Dominic Beer, who died ten years ago on April 19. Dominic was a consultant psychiatrist for many years and a founder of the National Association for Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (NAPICU). Were it not for his vision and leadership, the discipline of Psychiatric Intensive Care and challenging behaviour would not be where it is now, following good practice and enhancing the level of care for those with severe mental illness.
The Trust was originally founded as the Dominic Beer Memorial Trust before becoming BHMT, and in the last ten years we have raised over £175,000, most of which has been donated to independent mental health charities. So far this year we have a record number of applications for funding and sadly due to our limited funds, it will not be possible to support them all. Now more than ever we need your support.
